Here we pay our last respects to P.E.T. P.A.L.S. heroes who have left us in the past year. These animals have brought so much light and joy into the lives of people who really needed it, this is the least we can do to remember them.

Mocha
“Mocha was the light of our lives! She was a Pet Pals Therapy dog for 9 years. We adopted her from the Cedar Bend Humane Society on Feb. 5th, 2014 when we thought she was approximately 3 yrs. old. She had been dropped off pregnant with her 3rd litter weighing 53 lbs! She was a great mommy for 9 out of 10 puppies when we met her.
Her personality and demeanor was so gentle and loving that anyone who encountered her felt at ease and loved! She visited on one-time visits, New Aldeya, and most recently at the Cedar Valley Preschool and Childcare Center in Cedar Falls. Mocha was loved by all of the children and enjoyed being petted, walked, and hugged by the kids!
Mocha’s legacy will be forever remembered in our hearts and she is now playing across the rainbow bridge.“

Cooper
“We said goodbye to Cooper on July 5, 2022. He used to visit at the Boys and Girls Club in Waterloo. He loved doing the UNI destress days and the reading events at the Cedar Falls Library. He loved the kids reading to him and they knew he was a great listener. He didn’t judge them or try and correct them. Just listened. That’s exactly what they needed!
Everyone that met Cooper loved him. He would kiss you on the first meeting and just wanted your attention. I hope he made an impact on some kids’ lives. He will be greatly missed!“
Gus
“Our sweet 8 year old basset hound left us all too soon on June 27th, 2022. Gus was a volunteer with me at Friendship Village for 3 years. He loved everyone, 2 legged or 4 legged. You couldn’t help but smile when you lookerd at him. He loved his belly rubbed and would lay in the sunshine all day if you let him.”
Sebastion
“Sadly I lost Sabastion Jan. 4, 2019. He was not only my best friend, but the best fishing partner any man could ask for. He was almost 13 and was with me for 11 and a half years. No boy will ever be missed as much as him.”
Chloe
“I lost my precious Chloe on November 2, 2018. She was fifteen years old. Thirteen of those years, Chloe visited mostly at New Aldaya Lifscapes. In those years, she brought many smiles to the faces of the residents there. In fact, after being nominated by her vet, Dr. Wendi Goetsch, Chloe was awarded and inducted into the 2015 Iowa Animal Hall of Fame for her service in P.E.T. P.A.L.S. She was a loving little bundle of joy and will be missed by all who knew her!”
Maui
“Maui is at the Rainbow Bridge waiting until we meet again. She was 17 years old and lived 16 of those with me. She visited at Parkview Nursing Home when she was a member of P.E.T. P.A.L.S., but after a few years, made it clear to me she preferred to stay home where she was a constant companion whenever I sat down. She was a good nurse kitty and would flop for a belly rub if she felt I needed to relax. She was a sweetheart.”
Sunny
Brody
“Brody will be missed by the Waverly Health Center, Bremwood Children’s Home in Waverly, and all of the Coleman family, including my 87 nephews and nieces. Such an intelligent animal comes along rarely. Peace to him and may the P.E.T. P.A.L.S. organization thrive in giving such a service to the Cedar Valley.”
Lucy Lin
“Our sweet little Lucy Lin (Shih Tzu) passed away at home on 3/24/2019; she would have been 18 years old next month. Lucy was an active member for over 10 years and starred in several commercials for a local business.”
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

P.E.T. P.A.L.S. animal volunteers who have passed away can also be memorialized with an entry on a plaque at the Cedar Bend Humane Society. We have several plaques on display there, a testament to our much loved and missed volunteers.
